The E-flite Apprentice STS 1.5 m is based on one of the most proven platforms ever designed for learning to fly radio-controlled (RC) aircraft — the Apprentice S 15e. Its large size and 1500 mm (59.0 in) wingspan provide excellent visibility and improved wind handling, while the inherently stable design and SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology make it easier to learn and fly successfully, especially with the support of an instructor. This updated version builds on that foundation by adding Smart-compatible components and the option to upgrade with SAFE Plus GPS technology and a Landing Assist Sensor, making the learning process even more accessible and enjoyable.

Designed as a modern club trainer, the Apprentice STS 1.5 m features SAFE flight modes including Beginner, Intermediate and Experienced settings to support skill progression. Beginner mode limits pitch and bank angles and automatically returns the aircraft to level flight when controls are released, while Intermediate mode allows greater freedom without full stabilisation. Experienced mode provides full control for aerobatic manoeuvres such as loops, rolls and inverted flight. Panic Recovery can be activated at any time to return the aircraft to level flight, adding confidence for new pilots.

Optional SAFE Plus GPS-enabled technology introduces additional guidance features such as AutoLand, which performs a controlled landing approach, Holding Pattern, which allows the aircraft to circle above a set point, and Virtual Fence, which prevents the model from flying too far away. An optional Landing Assist Sensor can also be installed to improve landing consistency by automatically flaring before touchdown. These features make it easier to learn not only how to fly, but also how to land safely.

The model is available in both Bind-N-Fly Basic and Ready-To-Fly Basic versions. The Bind-N-Fly Basic version is ideal for experienced pilots or clubs who already own compatible transmitters, batteries and chargers, while the Ready-To-Fly Basic version includes a transmitter and is better suited to beginners. Both versions feature a durable EPO airframe, factory-installed electronics including a brushless power system and Smart ESC, and a simple assembly process that requires no glue or special tools.

As skills improve, the Apprentice STS 1.5 m remains capable of more advanced flying, including aerobatic manoeuvres, and can be fitted with optional floats for water operation. Its combination of stability, versatility and upgrade potential makes it an excellent choice for first-time pilots, instructors and club training programmes.
